Nexialism

In 2016, Council did a talk on Nexialism at the City of Paris Museum of modern art, introduced by the following text.

In the science fiction book The Voyage of the Space Beagle (1950), written by A. E. van Vogt, the crew of a spaceship encounters different forms of extraterrestrial intelligence and is exposed to many dangers. One of the crew members, a follower of a new science called “Nexialism”, will try to prove to his wary teammates how this new discipline can help solve complex problems. According to the author, “Nexialism is a science which aims to coordinate the elements of one domain of knowledge with those of other domains. It offers ways to speed up the process of absorbing knowledge and making effective use of what has been learned. “(Summary of the French Wikipedia page for The Voyage of the Space Beagle). In 2013, Grégory Castéra and Sandra Terdjman created Council, a curatorial initiative dedicated to composing with different forms of knowledge in order to give new descriptions of societal issues. Council acts in the long term, on an international scale, and modulates its structure to the needs of its activities. From these conditions, Council attempts to observe situations in which human nature reexamines itself, and to experience how “the way I don’t understand the other is different from the way he doesn’t understand me”. Considering projects carried out since the creation of Council, Grégory Castéra will interrogate the possibilities of “nexialist” curatorial practices.
